Welcome to NCCPN’s blog.
2011 is going to be the year we win back our dignity and our freedom.
NCCPN is working diligently to bring you safe, legal access to cannabis/marijuana for medical uses through passage of the NC Medical Marijuana Act.
We have worked since 2007 towards our goal of safe, legal access to cannabis/marijuana for patients, caregivers and researchers in our state.
We followed HB 1380 as it made it’s way towards the Health Committee. We lobbied and educated NC lawmakers. Last year’s session closed with no further action on our bill and as the leading sponsor, Rep. Earl Jones, was not re-elected, we have looked in a new direction for sponsorship of our bill.
Legislators who truly care about the citizens of this state who were sponsors of the original bill, have come forward in support of the patients along with new legislators to bring a new ‘non-partisan” bill to the legislators in 2011 with sponsorship which includes Republicans, Democrats and Unaffiliated representatives of the citizens of NC.
Now that the Veterans Administration (VA) has recognized the medicinal benefits of cannabis and has issued a new directive allowing veterans to utilize this natural medicine in states where it is legal and the American Medical Association (AMA) has called for rescheduling of cannabis and Americans for Safe Access (ASA) has filed a lawsuit against HHS and the DEA for truth standing in the way of rescheduling in the face of overwhelming scientific evidence that cannabis does have medical benefit, NC lawmakers have no excuse not to pass this bill into law in our state immediately.
This bill will generate in excess of $200 Million dollars per year for our state in tax revenue and licensing fees and create in excess of 1000 jobs within the first six months.
This legislation is a WIN/WIN for everyone involved, patients, job seekers, the state coffers and researchers.
NCCPN is proud and honored to announce we have a new president of our organization.
Perry Parks, our Veterans Director, will also carry the title of President of NCCPN. Perry was unanimously elected by our Board of Directors for the position on December 6, 2010.
Perry made the day that day by meeting with President Barack Obama in Winston-Salem, NC that day and was photographed by the News-Journal.
Perry also worked with Michael Krawitz to help get the new Veterans Administration directive allowing for medical cannabis for veterans in states where it is legal to use.
The American Medical Association, AMA, has also passed a resolution in support of medical cannabis and has called for the rescheduling of cannabis so doctors can prescribe its use for patients.
We are pleased to have someone of Mr. Parks’s stature and reputation as the president of the North Carolina Cannabis Patients Network, NCCPN.
Anyone who wants to help in any way, from making phone calls, to handing out info, to posting bulletins on public bulletin boards, to whatever you can dream up to help, call or email: NCCPN, 828-254-6211 or 828-899-0840 or send an email to: Volunteers@nccpn.org and we will contact you as soon as possible.
Be part of NC history!
Thank you for making a difference.
I wanted to take this opportunity to say thanks to our Officer and Gentleman, Mr. Perry Parks.
Perry is the type person who can walk into any situation and be totally comfortable, whether its the halls of the general assembly or a formal dinner at a country club.
We, the troop, says thanks Mr. Parks, we love you.
Perry has made wonderful inroads for this bill that many could not have done working together.
We know that the Creators were listening, and God sent Perry to us as an answer to our prayers. We are so honored to have him as our Officer in our battle for safe, legal access to our natural medicine.
Okay now friends and family, don’t forget to check out our news page for regular updates and NCCPN news coverage.
The NC House Health Committee will hold a hearing on HB 1380, the NC Medical Marijuana Act.
Patients will be available to testify before the committee regarding medical marijuana and their hopes of NC patients being able to have safe, legal access to the medicine that is best for their illness. Two of these patients are health care professionals themselves.
Attorney Ben Scales, who is NCCPN Legislative Director and primary drafter of the bill, will be testify as well regarding his support of this legislation for NC’s sick and suffering.
We have found that across the state, citizens of North Carolina, do not want their tax dollars used to arrest, prosecute and incarcerate patients for trying to ease their suffering.
We hope a favorable vote follows the testimony of these patients and health care professionals. Cross your fingers, call and email your state lawmakers, and pray for dignity and freedom.
Anyone with a physician willing to speak before the NC Health Committee regarding their patient’s use of cannabis and their support of this legislation, we need your help. The NC Health Committee will be holding a hearing on HB 1380 next week on Tuesday.
Also, if you are a patient willing to speak, please send us an email or call the home office at: 828-625-2818 or email at: director@nccpn.org
We need your help and we are out of funds, so we need donations to make this happen. Come on NC Citizens, let’s return dignity and equal rights to NC’s patients.
Now is the time!!!!
David, Don’t you worry my friend. HB 1380 makes provisions for patients who cannot afford their meds to still have a safe, legal access. There will be nonprofit dispensaries which will have meds for those who cannot afford.
As a matter of fact, we are considering NCCPN continuing after the bill is passed and developing a non-profit wellness center for our patient/members. We hope to have a nutritionist, acupressurist, physical therapist, massage therapist, meditation and spriritual counseling for our members. NCCPN belives in organic, wellness for patients.
Don’t worry, be happy. You will have your dignity returned and a safe, legal access.
So, CALL YOUR LEGISLATOR AND THE SPEAKER OF THE HOUSE and tell them to support HB 1380 NOW!!!
Patients Are Out of Time!
Well we have worked hard and done our part. Now it is up to you, the members to do your part. We will be documenting patient testimony from every district. Many of you have already had your testimony videotaped and some want your redone. These videos will only be shared with your legislators unless you give us permission to share them on our YouTube channel. We will be uploading some of the videos soon. Watch for it at: www.youtube.com/nccpn
We need you all to write, call, email and or fax your legislators in NC and ask them to support this legislation to return dignity and freedom to patients and equal treatment and protection under the law to NC citizens.
